Shortly it is going to be the start of July and we all know what is in store! A new iPhone model is preparing to become available to customers.

Already the iPhone 4 has it’s share of drama surrounding it, some of it started as early as Apr of 2010. In early Apr, Gizmodo employee Jason Chen acquired a then secret iPhone 4 prototype model from a nameless person for the price of five thousand dollars. Gizmodo.com held in depth coverage of the iPhone 4 and even was discussed on large reports channels like FoxNews and CNN. His home was later raided by the California Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team and had his computers snatched. The explanation for the raid on his house was something to do with commercial espionage; but how was he guilty of that if all that you’re doing is purchasing something? You are not swiping it so whats the difficulty.

Then when the iPhone was ready for advance order online, the system stopped working but not before over six hundred thousand preorders had been processed. Not just that, ATTs systems were afflicted by security breaks and folk were accessing other peoples accounts accidentally, and having the ability to view and change other customers info. Many are reporting that AT&T shops being shut down over the amount of folks trying to preorder and the stress of ATTs systems being far too overloaded. ATT in the end had to shut off the pre-ordering system due to mass misunderstanding and problems. What they really needed was computer geeks for their computer network.

Mashable journalist Sam Axon reported being mugged while lined up for the iPhone earlier today in Chicago. He posted on Twitter the following “I was just mugged while waiting in line for the iPhone 4. Not kidding.” What has happened to society? Lastly, many reports are available about iPhone 4 hardware problems. Gizmodo has said that the phone drops calls if a finger is placed on a certain little spot on the lower left side of the body. It just so happens that you can make the phonephone drop calls by touching to little antennas at the same time with your fingertip. The solution is as straightforward as a small piece of scotch tape, or put the telephone in a case. Such an easy fix for a $500 device, but it shouldn’t exist in the 1st place?

There is also real evidence the screen of the iPhone 4 has issues with yellow pixels, bands and splotches on the screen from standard use. Most likely Apple will not mend the issue for free and will claim the user damaged the LCD themselves. Unlike digital camera repair, most people can’t repair an iPhone themselves. Again, should this be an issue at release or should it have been taken care of before the very expensive phone was sold to the public? Sony found out the hard way years ago with a huge recall for digital camera repair service to fix the CCD sensor on millions of cameras consumers had previously bought.

Apple has a record of releasing excellent products, but with the certainty that the iPhone 4 was going to be as hot as it is, they really should have invested more in research and development. It’s much easier to deal with design problems before you put item into mass production than it is to handle them after the patron has purchased the item. No company wants to have a product recall for millions of buyers with problems after they purchase a product. We will have to wait and see if the bigwigs at Apple will think back upon this experience when producing new products in the future.

Apple has a history of making excellent devices, but with the certainty that the iPhone 4 was going to be as hot as it is, they should have put more thought and time into testing and development. It’s much easier to cope with design issues before you put item into mass production than it is to cope with them after the patron has purchased the item.
